Become a Friend to support our wherries and enjoy benefits including exclusive access and events, and early booking on public sailings. If you'd like to try crewing or restoration work, the first step is becoming a Friend.

Friends of Wherry Yacht Charter

From the equivalent of just £1.25 per month, membership of the Friends is an affordable and rewarding way to support our work. Our Friends receive:

  • Our quarterly full-colour newsletter, The Gaff Line.
  • Opportunities to volunteer and get involved with crewing, restoration, administration and other tasks that support our work.
  • Exclusive invitations to trips and social events both on board and on shore.
  • Early information on public events, scheduled wherry sailings and other sailing opportunities.
  • And, of course, the satisfaction of knowing that your subscription will help to protect, restore and sail the wherries.

To join as a Friend, please complete our form. You can either submit it online, and we will send details to make a direct bank payment, or you can print and post it with a cheque. The form can also be used for one-off donations.

The role of the Friends

The Friends plan and carry out many aspects of our events, non-charter sailings and fundraising activities, and recruit new members to support the work of the Trust on an ongoing basis. All volunteers are members of the Friends, and we always need more help in areas from boat maintenance to admnistration - see our volunteers page for details of how you can get involved. Administratively, the Friends Committee of WYCCT is a sub-committee of the Trust and works closely with the Trustees to achieve the charity's aims.

Wherry Yacht Charter is a registered charity (as Wherry Yacht Charter Charitable Trust), number 1096073

WYC is supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, RDPE, Geoffrey Watling Trust, Town Close Estate Charity and others.
