February 2017 - winter maintenance progress

Work has carried on over the winter at the wherry base, with regular volunteers working on Tuesdays to support our operations manager Dean. This year it was Olive's turn to come out onto the slipway, and thankfully there has not been a great deal of structural work needed. Tasks have included checking the electric lights, rubbing down paintwork and varnish where necessary, and re-varnishing as the weather allows (when not too damp). Volunteers also carry out general work at the base such as tidying the working areas and clearing leaves from access paths. A home-cooked Christmas meal was a welcome and well-deserved treat!

If you are interested in getting involved with tasks like those above, or just talking to our volunteers about any aspect of our work, come along to one of our Base Days, 10am-1pm on the first Saturday of the Month April-July and September. Please contact the Friends to express your interest, so we have an idea of how many people to expect and which tasks to prepare.
